Standby generators, automatic transfer switches and control circuits are where this Electrician job in Sydney takes you. It suits a licensed Electrician or Junior Electrician who wants to move past everyday installs into critical power systems on commercial sites across New South Wales.
You would service and test generators, often during building shutdowns, trace faults in controllers and PLCs, wire and test controls and help with commissioning and upgrades, with engineers on hand to support you. Some nights and weekends are scheduled.

Key Responsibilities
- Service and maintain the electrical side of standby generator systems
- Carry out electrical work on generator upgrades and modifications
- Test generators and emergency power during building shutdowns, including AFSS-related testing
- Diagnose faults in generator controllers, PLCs and control circuits
- Test and troubleshoot Automatic Transfer Switches and associated switchgear
- Work from electrical schematics and single-line diagrams
- Wire and test control systems
- Help commission generators and upgrade systems
- Investigate technical problems and put practical solutions in place
- Work on your own while keeping the wider team informed, alongside engineers on specialist generator projects
- Assist with telemetry and control-system work
- Cover scheduled night and weekend works
Requirements & Eligibility
- You must hold a current NSW Electrical Licence (essential)
- Proven practical trade experience as an electrician
- An employment history that can be verified
- Confident reading electrical schematics and single-line diagrams
- A hands-on approach and confidence with electrical and trade tools
- Good at diagnosing faults and finding practical solutions
- Comfortable working alone when needed and a strong contributor in a small team
- Experience with Deep Sea, Cummins, CAT or Woodward generator controllers is advantageous
- An interest in PLCs, control wiring, telemetry and standby power systems
- Full NSW Driver Licence required, with the ability to drive a manual vehicle
- Available for occasional night and weekend work
