Carpet and vinyl are the main materials in this Floor Layer job in Mackay, Queensland, where a growing installation team is adding two experienced layers. Jobs cover homes, commercial spaces, retail fit-outs and new builds, so no two weeks look quite the same.
You would measure up and read plans, lift old coverings and prepare subfloors, lay broadloom carpet, carpet tiles and luxury vinyl plank, then finish with trims and thresholds. Suitably skilled overseas applicants with verifiable relevant experience may be eligible for visa sponsorship.

Key Responsibilities
- Assess each area, take accurate measurements and read plans to work out the flooring materials required
- Lift existing coverings and prepare subfloors properly
- Install broadloom carpet with underlay and gripper, seaming and stretching it correctly
- Lay carpet tiles on residential and commercial sites, plus luxury vinyl plank
- Cut, fit and finish materials precisely, fitting trims, thresholds and edge finishes
- Handle repairs and rectification work when needed, keeping workmanship high on every install
- Keep your vehicle, tools and work area organised and safe, in line with Australian workplace safety and flooring installation requirements
- Work well with customers, builders and other trades
Requirements & Eligibility
- A minimum of 3 years' experience as a Floor Layer
- Hands-on experience installing broadloom carpet and/or vinyl plank
- A good understanding of subfloor preparation
- Able to measure accurately and work from plans
- A record of finishing flooring installations to a professional standard
- A current driver's licence before you start
- A current construction White Card before you start
- Good communication and at ease dealing with customers
- Reliable and physically fit for flooring work
- Works independently and within an installation team
- Commercial sheet vinyl experience, covering welding, coving and wall vinyl, is highly regarded
- Advanced floor preparation, floating floor and engineered timber installation experience are all highly regarded
