Civil Engineering Technician

Visa sponsorship

Engineering · Perth, WA, Australia · Full-Time · $80,000 - $90,000/yr · Visa: Employer sponsored

Earthmoving crews need someone who can turn a design into numbers, levels and records they can trust. A growing Western Australian firm doing earthworks, site preparation and civil jobs for residential, retail and industrial developments wants a Civil Engineering Technician to back up its Civil Engineer on several projects at once.

Some days you are at a desk drafting in AutoCAD and Civil 3D; others you are out measuring, testing materials, inspecting and checking that the work matches the plans, the Australian Standards, the specs and WHS rules. It is a permanent full-time post, weekdays only, on 8-hour shifts. Visa sponsorship under the Subclass 482 Skills in Demand visa programme may be available to suitably qualified applicants who meet the relevant immigration requirements.

Put your drafting software, the earthworks and drainage jobs you have supported and the testing standards you know on your CV. Assemble a Perth earthworks civil technician CV in Build AI CV with clear project examples.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft and update plans, sections and details for cut, fill, trenches and stormwater using CAD, including as-builts and the drawing register
  • Survey levels, depths, profiles and falls on site, then compare what was built with the design and list any gaps for the engineer
  • Organise soil and material testing in the field and the lab, and make sense of what the results show
  • Inspect digging, trench and drainage work, log non-conformances and watch fill being placed and compacted
  • Calculate volumes and material take-offs, and put together schedules and tender paperwork, including rough estimates of labour and material spend
  • Write up reports, checklists and compliance files from site data, keeping records ready for quality control and handover
  • Check what subcontractors submit, such as drawings and method statements, against the approved design
  • Keep supervisors, operators, subbies and surveyors informed, and raise anything on site that could hurt quality or compliance

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Civil Engineering, Civil Construction, Building Engineering Technology or a similar field; other qualifications may be considered with plenty of relevant experience
  • Minimum 2 years working in technical support for civil engineering, or in earthworks, site prep, drainage or civil building
  • Knows the Australian Standards that apply, AS 3798 and the parts of AS 1289 that matter included
  • Competent in practice with AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Reads drawings and specs, measures on site and helps calculate quantities; understands inspections, quality control on construction and reporting non-conformances
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office, Excel and Word above all; MS Project desirable
  • Communicates and coordinates well
  • White Card held now, or one you can get before starting on site
  • Australian driver licence that is valid, or able to obtain one, and happy to move between sites anywhere in Western Australia
