Building a hotel team from scratch does not come up often. The company behind this post operates hostels and part-hostel, part-hotel stays with their own bars and eateries on both sides of the Tasman, and its next big opening is in Auckland. It wants a General Manager to take the lead there.
This is a senior job with oversight of everything: front of house, cleaning, food and drink and upkeep all report to you, and you answer for guests, culture, money and compliance. You would ideally begin in January 2027, before doors open in March, and help shape the business and its managers from the start. Expect to send a covering letter. Key Responsibilities
- Head up every department, Host, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage and Maintenance, with their managers answering to you
- Take responsibility for guest satisfaction, team spirit, the numbers, standards and compliance
- Before launch, help set up systems, recruit the senior team and set the culture alongside head office
- After launch, link the departments together, support your managers and keep everyone heading the same way
Requirements & Eligibility
- Has run a hotel or hostel that is busy
- Understands rooms and lodging, yield management and the drivers of commercial results
- At ease handling budgets, labour, revenue and cost control
- Some food and beverage exposure, ideally across bars, restaurants or lively social spaces
- Knowing Auckland's hospitality and lodging market is helpful but not essential
- Interviews depend on sending a cover letter
- Ready for a pre-opening role
