Mining Engineer

Engineering · Brisbane, QLD, Australia · Full-Time · Discussed at interview · Visa: Employer sponsored
This senior Mining Engineer role, listed in Brisbane, sits in the short-term planning team of an established underground mine in Queensland. You would turn the mine's wider strategy into designs and schedules that crews can safely achieve, covering development, stoping, drill and blast and the services that support them.
Day to day, the job blends mine design, sequencing and production planning with the practical problems of underground work, plus mentoring for graduates, cadets and junior engineers. Visa sponsorship is available for suitably qualified candidates. It suits a hard-rock planner who likes seeing a plan carried out well underground rather than left on a screen.
On your CV, describe the underground operations you have planned for, the mine design software you use and the stope and drill and blast designs you have produced. Present your underground planning record with Build AI CV before applying.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the short-term underground mine plan from preparation to handover to operations, turning the wider strategy into achievable daily plans
- Design development headings, production areas and underground infrastructure
- Improve mine sequencing to lift operational results, and coordinate development, stoping, services, ventilation and backfill
- Prepare and refine drill and blast designs, and review stope designs against short-term production needs
- Identify planning risks and constraints early and recommend improvements
- Provide technical guidance to the mining engineering team and mentor engineers, graduates and cadets
- Check the operation is ready for planned work and follow it through to good execution
- Create accurate, practical designs in mine planning software and keep raising planning and design standards

- A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum 6–8 years in mining engineering roles
- Strong underground hard rock mining experience, including a proven short-term mine planning record
- Practical operational mine design ability and demonstrated drill and blast design work
- Good understanding of underground mining methods and production processes
- Has provided technical leadership or mentored junior engineers
- Knowledge of stope design and mine sequencing
- Proficient with Surpac, Vulcan, Datamine, Deswik or similar software
- Genuine underground mining experience that can be verified
